Signa

Signa is a municipality located in the territory of the plain next to Florence formed by the rivers Arno and Bisenzio

It was born in during the Etruscan period and it grows as the Florentine countryside. The most important monument is the bridge on the Arno, it was started to build in 1120 and is mentioned in the municipal coat of arms.

Signa had a rich history and now we have the Castle, the many Churches and the characteristic Tabernacles dedicated to the Blessed Jeanne. Signa is the city of straw: the special cultivation and processing of straw plaiting was started in the eighteenth century and made famous the Florentine straw in the world. In the half of the '800, the Bondis’ created the “Manufacture of Signa 'to play the great works of statues and bas-reliefs and it is still in operation.

Signa is nestled in the hills of olive groves and vineyards and it is surrounded by lakes including the Renai one. The Arno and Bisenzio form pools of water around a strip of land while remaining attached seems an island, thanks to the intense sand extraction in the 50s.

The 'Free State of Renai' has about three hundred acres of parkland with river water and nature reserves WWF, sailing and windsurfing school, beach, swimming pool, soccer fields, beach volleyball, mini golf, climbing wall and free climbing, playground for children, bar, restaurant and pizzeria, a wide private beach for swimming and a bicycle path along the Arno river reaches the Cascine Park of Florence.

An hotel in Signa allows you to stay in an area rich of natural and historical heritage in two steps from Florence (well-connected to the city center) with a relaxing atmosphere.
