Palazzo Pitti

The area of the Pitti Palace is located just crossed the Arno and owes its name to this great mansion built in the second half of the fifteenth century on the hill of Boboli. 


Cosimo I de' Medici chose it as the abode of the family, who stayed there for almost two centuries. Even the Savoias lived there during the 5 years of Florence was the capital of Italy. 


Pitti Palace houses inside the Palatine Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Silver Museum and the Costume Gallery in addition to the Boboli Gardens with the Porcelain Museum


The area of the Pitti Palace is located in the Oltrarno district, and is a well known tourist destination.
