Galluzzo - Certosa

'Galluzzo' was a town and now is a residential neighborhood in the south of Florence. It is an area full of greenery and tranquility, between the city and the hills that surround it.

The main attraction of the area is the Certosa which stands on Monte Acuto or Monte Santo. It was built in 1341 by the will of Niccolò Acciaiuoli, a powerful man of a banking family, as part of a Carthusian monastery but it is now led by Benedictine and Cistercian and is accessible to the public. The complex includes the monastery, the art gallery, three internal cloisters, the refectory, the Chapter Hall, the parlor, the Crypt, the Guest, the Oratory of Santa Maria Nuova and the Church of San Lorenzo.
